Arizona State Sun Devils Halloween Helmets
Arizona State Sun Devils Halloween helmets almost design themselves. When your team is already called the Sun Devils, plays in the Arizona desert and has Sparky carrying a pitchfork, Halloween doesn't exactly have to knock twice.
For this stop inside The Sovereign Vault, we've imagined nine haunted Arizona State football helmets inspired by the Sun Devils, the desert, Tempe and the darker side of ASU's unmistakable identity.
Arizona State Was Made for Halloween
Some college football teams need a little imagination before they can be dragged into a Halloween nightmare. Arizona State isn't one of them.
You've got a devil for a mascot, a pitchfork as one of the program's most recognizable symbols and a home surrounded by a landscape that can already look otherworldly after sunset. Add ASU's maroon and gold to a black Halloween backdrop and suddenly you've got one of the most natural combinations in this entire helmet series.
That's why these concepts don't simply stick pumpkins onto ordinary Arizona State helmets. The idea is to imagine what would happen if the Sun Devils' identity itself became haunted.
Nine Ways to Haunt a Sun Devils Helmet
Across the nine designs, the familiar ASU identity gets pulled in several very different Halloween directions.
One helmet turns the desert into a sinister jack-o'-lantern landscape. Another leans heavily into the devil imagery that has followed Arizona State for generations. Elsewhere you'll find skull-inspired artwork, ghostly imagery, fiery desert scenes and darker interpretations of the pitchfork.
The goal was still to make every helmet immediately feel like Arizona State. Maroon and gold remain central to the collection, while the pitchfork repeatedly anchors the designs to the Sun Devils instead of letting them become generic Halloween helmets.
Sparky Gets a Halloween Upgrade
Arizona State's mascot gives these concepts something most college football teams simply don't have: the program already has a supernatural character built into its identity.
Sparky doesn't need to be transformed into a vampire, zombie or monster to belong at Halloween. He's already the Sun Devil.
That gave us room to play with more than just the mascot himself. The pitchfork can become sinister. The desert can become haunted. Gold can turn into firelight. Maroon can become almost blood-red against the darkness. Even the Arizona heat works as part of the theme when a helmet looks like it has been pulled straight out of some infernal desert furnace.
Desert Darkness in Tempe
Arizona gives the Sun Devils another advantage when it comes to Halloween design: the landscape.
Desert mountains, enormous moons, twisted silhouettes, scorched earth and fiery skies can all fit naturally alongside ASU imagery. The result is a different flavor of Halloween from the foggy graveyards and haunted forests that work for teams elsewhere in the country.
This is Halloween under a desert moon — and that's exactly why the Arizona State collection needed its own personality.
Which Arizona State Halloween Helmet Wins?
That's up to you.
Take another look at all nine designs and pick the one you'd most want to see Arizona State actually wear under the lights.
Which number is your favorite? And if ASU ever wore a Halloween alternate helmet, would you go with something terrifying — or keep it closer to the traditional Sun Devils look?
The Arizona State vault door may be open, but there are plenty more haunted programs waiting behind it.
